Job Description for Mortgage Loan Clerk

Summary

Coordinate with the Mortgage Loan Manager in implementing and carrying out bank policy and procedures with respect to overall operations of the bank. Responsible for inputting new mortgage data into computer. Operate online terminal to obtain credit information on mortgage loan applications. Prepare a variety of letters, forms, documents, and perform miscellaneous clerical duties such as maintaining certain logs and reports, typing and filing.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Answer switchboard general calls and department call; assist customers as much as possible before referring call.
  • Input data pertinent to a new mortgage loan file and update as changes are received.
  • Process loan requests from initial disclosures, ordering 3rd party services, to closing documents (including balancing closing disclosures).
  • Upload loans, perform checkbacks, finalize all closing items.
  • Handle servicing inquires, process mail.
  • Prepare a variety of letters and forms such as escrow letters, and rewrite letters.
  • Maintain pending mortgage files by tracking documents as they are returned.
  • Assist in payment and tracking of all escrowed items and processing of PMI and blanket insurance.
  • Comply with all bank policies, regulations, and laws applicable to carrying out duties and responsibilities.

Desired Education, Training, and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Technical Skills Needed

  • Knowledge and experience with operating a computer, calculator, and other general office equipment.
  • Excellent social and communication skills:
    • Use professional and clear verbal communication skills.
    • High quality writing skills, using accurate word usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation in all written correspondence.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
    • Use professional phone etiquette, including tone and volume of voice.

Mental Effort Needed

  • Ability to multi-task, work in a fast paced, changing environment and maintain a commitment to accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ability to follow policies, procedures and written instructions, as well as verbal instructions or directions from his/her supervisor.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to get along well with coworkers and to work as part of Eastern Michigan Bank’s team, working towards the Bank’s goals set forth by its’ Board of Directors.
